Neon Boots

Neon Boots is a young and dynamic Spanish shoe company that makes Chelsea-style ankle boots for city folk of all sexes (children included), using an eclectic mix of materials and neon colors to spice up its English prototype. The company was born in 2012 in Valverde del Camino, a locality in the Andalusian province of Huelva. Today Valverde del Camino also stands for a “Made in Spain” design and manufacturing collective specializing in traditional equestrian-style boots and accessories. (The Spanishoegallery Blog featured Valverde del Camino companies here, here and here.)

As the new and hip kid on the block, Neon Boots has moved away from the rugged country aesthetic to the slimmer and edgier city style boot (read an expert discussion on the Chelsea style here), while using the same excellent quality cow hide that the Valverde del Camino boots are celebrated for (highly-breathable deer skin is used for the inner). The design borders on extravagant, notably influenced by British fashion and its icons like David Bowie, Twiggy, Mick Jagger, and, more recently, Kate Moss.

NeonBootsFederica
Neon BootsFederica line. This Chelsea-inspired shoe is a mix of hunter green suede and brick-color patent leather for the toe area, trimmed by a strip of pale purple leather with brogue-style perforations.

This spiffy looking shoe fits in well with the revival of the androgynous style in fashion.

So what do you think? That’s it for me – one of these is definitely going on my wish list. With their vivid style Neon Boots really sold me on the whole Chelsea idea. These boots are fun! Of course, many models are not for the tame of heart – fashion courage is required. Some play it safe:

others have more fun:

The Neon Boots online store delivers worldwide. (Within Europe the shipping is free).

Of course, fashion has a price. As a rule, a pair of Neon Boots costs over 200 Euros. You can find them cheaper in places like YOOX, like this “Classic” model:

On the whole, a great boot: stylish, good leather, flexible sole, fun pop colors in lots and lots of combinations. And all in good Spanish taste!
