Spanish Fashion Fixture in New York

Spanish fashion has become a recognized voice at the Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, also known as the New York Fashion Week. For the last few years, it has been represented by the trio of Desigual, Delpozo, and Custo Barcelona. Of the three, Custo has been making the trip over the pond the longest. Desigual and Delpozo are more recent additions that have also gotten off to a good start.

Shoes and Chocolate For Valentine’s Day

Shoes and chocolate are the best treats a woman can get on Valentine’s Day. I used to underestimate chocolate, but I never underestimated the power of shoes. Lately, I’ve been scouring YOOX, my affiliate partner and THE greatest online destination for Spanish shoes outside Spain, for good deals on yummy Spanish shoes.

Mermaid Heels and Other Cool Fantasies

Mermaid heels – that’s what I call shoes that have a distinctly scaly leather texture. They happen to be signature Paco Herrero, a classic Spanish dressy women’s shoe brand from Elda. Not too long ago I featured a “mermaid” ankle boot by them. As I often say on this blog, I’m a huge admirer of textured leather shoes.

Spanish High-End Bags: The Edit

High-end bags are not limited to a few very well-known names. Unless, of course, you regard high-end handbags as status symbols indicating that you "have arrived", as Samantha from "Sex and the City" famously said. You may or may not remember, but the episode with the uber-exclusive bag actually backfired for her. Still, what do we mean when we refer to a bag as "high-end"?

Sparkling Shoes for a Happy New Year

New Year's festivities bring to light lots and lots of sparkling shoes. Practically all women's shoe brands use glitter in their winter models, presenting them as perfect party heels. It is not very easy to stand out in this crowd, but some brands do. The one brand that I always single out when it comes to sparkling shoes is RAS.

Ankle Boots – Embellished or Plain?

Ankle boots are the city dweller's best friend in the colder months, easily switching from outside to inside, from sporty wear to fancy wear. Whether the ankle boot is embellished or plain does make a difference - the embellished ones are obviously more visually exciting, but the plain ones are easier to combine with different outfits. I picked out two sets of ankle boots, designed and made in Spain: one embellished, one plain, by four great, reputable Spanish brands. Let's take a closer look!

Perfect Holiday Pump by Hannibal Laguna

End-of-the-year parties call for a perfect holiday pump. I've been checking out a lot of holiday-worthy pumps lately and the suede bow-embellished creations by Hannibal Laguna, a prominent Spanish fashion designer, come closest to what I imagine a perfect holiday pump should be like. From jewel tones and velvety texture to the sensuous shape, pretty heel, and fine detailing, the "Calen" pump ticks off all the boxes.

Custom Shoes by Custom & Chic

Custom shoes are becoming a necessity in this increasingly personalized world. If you customize your kitchen, your car, your Internet browser, your smartphone settings, and countless other things, then why not customize your shoes? Shoes express your personality a lot more clearly than all of the above. Shoemakers have long understood that. Of course, in the olden times, any shoes of quality were custom made. Nowadays, in the "everything is mass-produced" world, having your shoes "made to order" is far from the rule, but custom shoes still have their place.

Halloween or The Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead, Halloween, Finaos - all these celebrations deal with otherworldly things and with our fear of what is beyond the final line. Humour always helps. So does dressing up, which is a great Halloween tradition. You could dress up as Kitty Soft Paws from the 2011 Puss in Boots movie, for example. And I've got just the perfect pair of boots for the costume. What Kitty Soft Paws would say "no" to so much patent leather elegance?
