Shoe of the Week: Audley

AudleyLisa1

I’ve been eyeing shoes by Audley for a while. They have a very distinct style, which I’ve seen described as being influenced by Bauhaus – a German art movement from the beginning of the 20th century. Bauhaus is very well-known for its fusion of art and industry, crafts and fine arts. One of its ideas was that materials making up an object should be used “naturally”, proudly displayed instead of hidden. Bauhaus or not, but this “Lisa” buckle-strap sandal by Audley rests very naturally on its tubular leather-covered heel and provides a lot of coverage with that big off-white leather upper that reaches up to the front of the ankle. At the same time, the deep slits on the sides of the upper and the nude beige sole make them look light and breathable. It is a very attractive mix of lightness and stability. And quality.

Audley shoes are sold through YOOX.COM, but you can also purchase them from the Audley online store. The company representative I contacted assured me that they do deliver to North America, so if you are having difficulties with ordering, just drop them an e-mail. The shoes are not cheap, but the price is the only thing that is holding me back from ordering these right now. At some point I definitely will.
